So I just decided to render the speedpaint videos for this month's Patreon rewards and instead VLC corrupted all my files when I tried to convert them from mkv to mp4 and it overwrote the originals so now I have nothing, lost all the process of the two illustrations I had done and it's almost the end of the month and I have to paint and record the process of two new illustration in a couple of days before I have to leave on a trip 🙃
#personal#I want to put my head in a blender#apparently there is no way to recover them#the files I'm left with are like 150b each so there is no video data in them anymore and it even fucked up the extensions#I didn't even have the program set to overwrite originals while converting..it just did that on it's own for some reason#I'm not sure I can even make it in time at this point#I haven't missed a Patreon deadline in my life and I've been doing it for 8 years I want to dieeeeee#now they are all either .sfk.mp4 or .mp4.sfk like why two extensions per file and why are they even sfk when that's audio only aaauguhh#nipuni blogs

made this thing for taking the average item flow of a plastanium conveyor over 64 seconds because im fed up with how short the sample time is for the built in item flow meter. Every second it measures how many items are in a conveyor tile and stores each measurement. It then sums all of those up and compares it to the maximum possible value that could have been made (being 10 items for every measurement, 640 items) and outputs how many items, on average, passed through that conveyor tile every second. schematic below cut

thank you for your service, fiskars eight inch non-stick titanium softgrip scissors
you lived, ready-to-hand, in the hone slot of my knife block and together, for the last six years and seventy five days, we have opened bags and boxes, snipped ties and tape, shaped paper and cloth. sometimes though, i asked more of you, we trimmed the woody stems of herbs, we pruned the branches of plants, and as your final task, we cut through the rib cage of a spatchcocking spring chicken. i tried to repair your broken handle, but it was not to be. for now your slot sits empty. you will be missed

Speaking of all of the neopets drama
I can't believe the main neopets tag forgot about the snowball that Jungle_Boo caused which ultimately led to where we are today with Conversion 2.0 and bringing back unconverted pets
#Neopets#the tl;dr is that the neopets team said no new UC pets after 2007 and conversion was a one-way street#but then a staff member got caught with Jungle_Boo who was made in 2013 and was UC#and there was a lot of fudging from the staff with Jungle's data to justify a 2013 being UC when it shouldn't have happened#but then they corrupted that pet by accident by fudging it too hard (Jungle_Boo is now a converted -15 yrs old pet)#between that and staff unconverting pound pets in 2020 kind of proved that yes it really is just a toggle#especially after hackers got ahold of the unconverting tool

Sorry for not posting in a few days. I was working out how to use a new (to me) data visualization tool. I have plans for something a bit more interesting with it, but this is my starting place. It's a bar chart race showing the changes in element users over time. I included the timeline in this one because I've made a line graph depicting this data before, and I was using it as a comparison.
Because I was taking the count weekly from the release of Genshin, I thought that it would always line up with the banner releases, but at some point, it seems that the releases are just slightly off. The 4.7 second-half banner will be starting on June 25, 2024, yet just adding seven days to the prior date starting with September 28, 2020 ended up at June 24, 2024. I double-checked the fandom wiki, and it looks like there was one update that lasted one day extra and one that was two days short.
#genshin impact#genshin stats#data visualization#data#genshin graphs#genshin#genshin data#I converted this to a gif while listening to writing on the wall on loop lol#Also it feels so silly to mention my birthday in this post lol#I'll be turning 24!

Being a USAmerican scientist is fun because your brain is wired half in imperial units and half in metric, dependant on which things you have to measure at work on a regular basis.
I can guess pretty accurately how much of a liquid there is in liters, but I do not know what a pint is. I have a decent idea about grams, but not ounces. Meanwhile I am baffled by kilograms - large weights only make sense to me in pounds and imperial tons. Celsius, in my head, is for things well above boiling temp (like the muffle furnace we dry chemicals and in), and Fahrenheit is for weather. I am horrible at centimeters, but meters is the intuitive measure of longer distances - what on earth is 50 feet supposed to look like? Kilometers? I don't know her.
#hylian rambles#hylian does science#please do not ask me to measure fluids in imperial units unless it's for cooking#also. when us government agencies publish data in imperial and make me convert to metric. i get so annoyed.

i know nothing about biochemistry but i simply think it would be funny if i made a fake "medication fact sheet" for the digihrt comic
especially since i have lore regarding "HS Pharmaceuticals"
#musings#-apomon#this thought brought to you by the system dozing in the passenger seat on the way home from one of MANY doctor's appointments#resulting in a new medication and mooooore bloodwork (sobs)#actually i got home just in time to see the new elfhrt update and like idk where exactly they're going but#i'm so glad we seem to not be the only one thinking about how like#the pharmaceutical aspect could be worth looking into#(irl pharmaceutical industry shit is like. a fucking nightmare from my very surface level understanding)#i don't go much into the trial group in digihrt but not for lack of cooking#fr apo and i put way too much energy into the lore for digihrt#in the case of digihrt the meds are definitely a case of like#something that could be perceived as medication by people#therefore it is presented that way#but i think from a biochemical standpoint it isn't so much a substance as it is solid data and feelings#(aka the shit that makes d*gimon evolve)#that's why i picked the three things i did for digihrt#in the series this comes from a human partner but like#how do you convert that when you are taking a human body and turning it into a d*gimon?#i have the most lore about crest development tbh#-sky

um not like to freak you out or anything at this hour of the night but i think about things a lot and im a bit high so im sorry if its alittle incoherent
"how much is false and how much is just animal instinct" i think all of its "animal instinct" at its core, and i guess the truthiness of it depends on what you classify as true or false.
i think morality is just a social construct to help groups cooperate and survive, same with the tendency to assimilate and fall into categories. and really there's nothing inherently wrong with constructs, theyre just our animal instincts. it's okay to fall into them i think. they are quite handy and like you said you can make your own. i think the emphasis should be more on being aware of them than breaking free of them. you're only human, i think. scritching your chin
and with entropy and meaning and all that. i think its so easy to get lost in the big picture. we don't last long in the grand scheme of things and we dont really have an inbuilt purpose besides existing. you can make your own purpose(s) if you want. but like just on its own you exist and thats pretty cool. you're the only one that will get to live your life. you will get to experience emotions and get a peak into the wide breadth of things that exist. i think all that's pretty awesome and reason enough to be alive. it's really grounding (for me at least) to just remember how cool and rare it is for me to exist and get to experience so many things.
Shit.. yeah you're right it's all animal instinct huh. outside of conspiracy shit like aliens and divine revelation, everything we're working with is stuff we've developed ourselves (and like.. our interactions with other animals on the planet). it's a very "Hypocrite that you are, for you trust the chemicals in your brain to tell you they are chemicals." situation. all that we are is derived from our existence.
guess I was too baked into the false dichotomy of mind/body, where really it's all just body and extrapolations from it.
I think that's actually a pretty relaxing thought though. it absolves any existential duty to some sort of "higher cause" and simply lets me exist in a neutral state.
yeahh, it's so easy to lose myself in the big picture. like when people see pictures of space and get scared because they're so small in comparison. the urge to find an answer to all my questions right now. it's both comforting and frustrating to know that people have been doing this for as long as we can remember. digging deeper and deeper hoping to find hell. building higher and higher hoping to find heaven. and all that's left is the things we've built. monuments to nothing else but our own efforts to make sense of things.
data is neutral until it gets interpreted, right? knowing that I'm small in comparison to other things isn't anything until I feel something about it. whether I feel scared and hopeless in the face of the enormity, or if I feel excited because of the chance I get to live whatever short tiny life I have. it's all still a framework I've constructed around the information. it's all input -> processing -> output. and that's infuriating because recognizing that you're interpreting data skews that interpretation. that thing where quantum particles are disturbed by the very act of observation. being self aware enough to be resistant to common therapy approaches. recognizing the mechanism fucks with the mechanism.
#ask color#I can't shake the suspicion I'm being positively reinforced here.#oh well. I'm not going to be complaining about it#I'm sitting here agonizing over how much to use the personal “I” and how much to stick with the inclusive “we” and hypothetical “you”#I don't want to center the conversation around myself but I also don't want to generalize and extrapolate so far that it#so far that it becomes hypothetical nonsense. surely there's a balance in here somewhere right?#I'm going to do what I always do and just convert almost everything into passive voice. that's a healthy coping mechanism I think /s#anyway. I try not to scream COPIUM at everything because that's not constructive dialogue#but it does kinda feel futile when we end up doubting the very structure through which we interrogate reality.#but I'm not about to let myself go down the philosophy hole too deep. that's how you get to “do I even know that I even exist?” stuff.#that's when you gotta step back and stop hunting perfection and simply try for functional. if it works it's good enough. half-ass that shit#I guess the mind/body thing is less a separation of parts and more a hierarchy of priority maybe? like#hierarchy of needs sorta shit. what is an innate immediate need and what's a resulting construct?#food and nutrition is a need but cultural recipes and cuisine are a construction based on taste and ingredient availability#community is a social need. but things like public education and social services are constructed out of that need.#simple causes driving the fabrication of complex mechanisms. like how everything boils down to physics.#chemical reactions are just electrons pushed by electromagnetism. wheels upon wheels.#idk. my antidepressants make me worry about this less but how much is that just once again altering how I process the input data?
